Library blog

It's been a while since I did anything on this blog, so I wanted to do a quick update.
I am currently working on a blog for the library, so that the staff and the patrons can post and comment on what they're reading and what they think. We are hoping that this will generate a lot of buzz in the library community and are hoping for a lot of feedback.

We are also planning on relaunching our facebook page with added content from the staff about events around the library, hoping to generate more traffic on our page. It seems like it could be a good tool, if the public utilized it. In trying to generate the facebook traffic, we had placed free tickets to a local baseball team event, Omaha Royals, on the facebook page first, to see if anybody would come in to get them before placing them out on the desk. Unfortunately, nobody came in to get them, leaving us to believe that nobody goes to our facebook page. So, we are working on getting more patrons to access it and learn more of some of the events that we plan on offering in the future.

Wish us luck!

Software tracking

Wakoopa

My user name for the Wakoopa website is kellyolson.

I find it interesting, but not all that useful, because I know how much I am using the program. For example, last week I was using photoshop a lot because I was trying to redo some images for the website. So, although I didn't know exactly how much I was using it, I knew that most of my day consisted of using photoshop.

I think that it would be helpful to use in public computers, as tracking the software would come in handy with what the public would be using, how much they were using it, and what programs were not being used. This might come in handy in a budget request for later years somehow, such as upgrades. As far as if this would be an invasion of privacy, that their using a public computer is reasoning for tracking the software, and you aren't exactly spy on them, but the computer and software usage.

71/2 habits video excercise

I watched the 7 1/2 habits of learning and found it very interesting. I do believe that I have become a life-long learner over the years as I grow older. It always seems like there is so much out there to learn that it is sometimes hard to focus on one thing long enough to learn it.

I think the easy habit to do would be pick a goal, but then again the hardest to actually narrow it down to what goal I would like to start with. As a graphic designer, there are so many interesting things in my career field to learn about that are being done, and the technology is a life-long learning process in itself.

I also have other hobbies that I like to do, such as art and sculpting, that I am interested in continuing to push myself in new directions and creativity. It is hard to find the time to work on those areas, and a lot of the time I find myself reluctant to work on it because I can't devote enough time to it as I would like.

I hope this answers the questions that were asked, and am interested in learning more and participating in this.

thanks
